MOBILE PHONE TAX TIP (FROM June 12 NEWSLETTER)

Py for your employees mobile phones. Now even their private calls qualify for tax decution from your profits. so saving you and they a total of 45.8% of the grossed up cost. The employee should have some business usage of the phone. You may want to give all your employees mobiles to use on their desks. With some of the contracts available you will often find that such mobiles are cheaper than land lines and as this phone may also be your employees personal phone, they may well willingly take office calls outside business hours.

HMRC insists on the following regarding tax deduction of mobiles:

1) The contract must be in the name of the employer not the employee.

2) The phone (handset) is provided by the employer and belongs to him/her.

3) Each emplyee may only have one such phone.
